Kjerringøy, Bodø - Northern Norway
After showing some old, original fishing equipment, it might be time to show you an original Norwegian fishing boat too.
One which actually was used in the old days - a "Nordland boat", also called a "Fembøring", because it has 5 to 6 pairs of oars. (Size 40-48 ft.)
Boats like that were used in the traditional "Lofotfisket" which last from the beginning of January until the end of April. All this time the fishing men lived on boats like this - some were sleeping, others working ... kind of shift work in the old days.
This boat, and several more (smaller ones) can be found on the ground of the Old Trading Post on Kjerringøy (nineteenth century).
